Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder
This disorder is characterized by persistent difficulties with vaginal penetration, pelvic pain during intercourse, fear of pain, or tension in anticipation of sexual activity. Etiologies include musculoskeletal dysfunction, trauma, psychological stressors, and medical conditions. Patients may report dyspareunia, vaginismus, avoidance of sexual activity, and impaired intimate relationships. Diagnosis requires a detailed sexual, medical, and psychosocial history, alongside pelvic examination and exclusion of other conditions. Management integrates pelvic floor physical therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, and multidisciplinary sexual health support. Prognosis is favorable with early intervention and adherence to structured treatment.
