Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder
Compulsive sexual behavior disorder is characterized by persistent, repetitive sexual thoughts, urges, and behaviors causing marked distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning. Etiology involves dysregulation of reward pathways, impulsivity, and potentially comorbid psychiatric conditions such as mood or anxiety disorders. Clinically, patients display inability to control sexual behavior despite adverse consequences, often leading to relational, occupational, or legal difficulties. Diagnosis requires assessment of behavior patterns, distress, and functional impairment, while excluding other mental or medical conditions. Management includes cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychopharmacological interventions targeting impulsivity or compulsivity, and psychoeducation. Prognosis improves with consistent treatment, though chronicity may occur without intervention.
