Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy

CTE is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder associated with repetitive head trauma, commonly observed in athletes and military personnel. Pathology involves abnormal tau protein deposition, cortical and subcortical atrophy, and widespread neuroinflammation. Clinical features include cognitive impairment, behavioral changes, mood disorders, and motor abnormalities. Diagnosis is clinical and retrospective, with definitive confirmation via postmortem neuropathology. Management is supportive, focusing on symptom control and cognitive rehabilitation; prognosis is progressive, with increased risk of dementia and psychiatric comorbidities.
