Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis
Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis is the occlusion of dural venous sinuses by thrombus, leading to increased intracranial pressure, venous infarction, or hemorrhage. Etiologies include prothrombotic states, infection, trauma, and hormonal factors. Clinical presentation is variable, often including headache, seizures, focal neurological deficits, and papilledema. Diagnosis is confirmed by MR venography or CT venography demonstrating thrombosis. Management includes anticoagulation, treatment of underlying cause, and supportive care; prognosis is generally favorable if diagnosed and treated early.
