Anorexia Nervosa (Binge–purge Type)
This subtype includes recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as vomiting, laxative use, or excessive exercise. Etiology and pathophysiology overlap with restricting type but may include greater impulsivity and affective dysregulation. Clinically, patients present with weight loss, electrolyte disturbances, gastrointestinal complications, and psychological distress. Diagnosis requires clinical evaluation of eating behaviors, compensatory mechanisms, and psychological assessment. Treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach, including nutritional rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and medical monitoring. Prognosis is variable, often dependent on early intervention and adherence to comprehensive treatment plans.
