Corticobasal Degeneration
Corticobasal degeneration is a rare progressive neurodegenerative tauopathy characterized by asymmetric rigidity, apraxia, dystonia, and cortical sensory deficits. Pathophysiology involves tau accumulation in cortical and basal ganglia neurons. Clinical features include asymmetric limb rigidity, alien limb phenomena, and cognitive decline. Diagnosis is clinical, supported by neuroimaging showing asymmetric cortical atrophy and exclusion of other parkinsonian syndromes. Management is symptomatic, including physical therapy, dopaminergic medications, and speech therapy; prognosis is poor, with progressive disability over years.
