Choreoathetosis
Choreoathetosis is a movement disorder combining features of chorea (rapid, jerky movements) and athetosis (slow, writhing movements), commonly associated with basal ganglia dysfunction. Causes include cerebral palsy, metabolic disorders, genetic syndromes, and drug exposure. Clinical presentation includes continuous involuntary movements interfering with motor tasks. Diagnosis is clinical, with supportive neuroimaging and genetic or metabolic testing as appropriate. Management is symptomatic, including pharmacologic agents (e.g., anticholinergics, benzodiazepines) and physiotherapy; prognosis varies with etiology.
