Erectile Disorder
Erectile disorder is a sexual dysfunction characterized by persistent difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. Etiology includes vascular, neurologic, hormonal, and psychological factors. Clinically, patients report decreased erectile rigidity, decreased frequency of sexual activity, and associated distress. Diagnosis requires thorough medical, psychological, and sexual history, as well as laboratory and vascular assessments when indicated. Management involves lifestyle modifications, psychosexual therapy, pharmacologic agents such as PDE5 inhibitors, and treatment of underlying comorbidities. Prognosis is favorable with comprehensive, individualized management and patient engagement.
