Pyromania
Pyromania is a rare impulse-control disorder characterized by deliberate fire-setting for pleasure, tension relief, or gratification, rather than for financial gain or revenge. Etiology involves neurobiological, psychological, and social factors, including impulse control deficits. Clinically, patients experience tension prior to fire-setting and relief or pleasure afterward. Diagnosis is clinical, based on DSM-5 criteria, differentiating from conduct disorder or antisocial behavior. Management includes psychotherapy focused on impulse control, behavioral modification, and addressing comorbid psychiatric disorders.
