Sensory Ataxia

Sensory ataxia is a form of incoordination resulting from impaired proprioceptive input to the central nervous system. Etiologies include peripheral neuropathy, dorsal column lesions, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Pathophysiology involves disruption of afferent pathways necessary for proprioceptive feedback. Diagnosis is clinical, supported by neurological examination and imaging/electrophysiologic studies. Management addresses underlying causes and includes physiotherapy; prognosis depends on etiology and reversibility of the sensory deficit.
