Pallidal Degeneration

Pallidal degeneration refers to neurodegeneration of the globus pallidus, often seen in neurodegenerative or metabolic disorders. Clinical manifestations include movement disorders such as dystonia, parkinsonism, or chorea. Pathophysiology involves neuronal loss, gliosis, and altered basal ganglia circuitry. Diagnosis relies on MRI, clinical evaluation, and sometimes genetic testing. Management is symptomatic, including pharmacologic therapy for movement disorders and rehabilitation; prognosis is progressive depending on the underlying disease.
